Terry Lawson (Evangelist and father of K/4 & 1st grade sons):
I would love to share with you how excited my family is about Calvary Christian School in King. Since we came and visited the school in 2005, we have voiced to Pastor Baker and Mr. main the enthusiasm we have for this great ministry. We are glad that Mr. Main has the heart to see to it that our children are properly educated.
The Lord has allowed me the great privilege of serving Him in the ministry for over 20 years. I have had the opportunity to be an Associate Pastor, Pastor, and now an evangelist for 18 years. During my travels, I have ministered in many countries and all across the United States, during which I have ministered in a great number of churches that have Christian schools. Of these, there are only a handful of schools that I would ever consider for my children, and Calvary Christian School is one of them.
This year I have had the opportunity to teach as a substitute in several of the North Carolina Public Schools. After my first day of teaching, I informed my wife that if it were not for CCS our children would have to be home schooled. I believe that many parents do not really know what is going on in our public middle and high schools. The language and conduct of the children are unbelievable.
When our son, Jonathan, recently graduated from Kindergarten at CCS, our family and friends who came to see the program were very impressed. We have seen similar programs at much larger Christian schools, but they did not compare with the CCS performance.
Christy and I have prayed that the Lord would allow us to live near a quality, well-balanced Christian school. It is important to us that our children be taught the values and truths of God’s Word, as well as be trained academically to live in our world today. We highly recommend Calvary Christian School in King, and we encourage other families to prayerfully consider enrolling their children in this ministry. You can be assured that they will receive the level of education that will help them to excel. It is definitely worth it to us to do everything necessary to provide our children with this great, Godly education!
Laura Badgett (Missionary and mother of former K/4, 8th,& 9th grade students):
I have three children who have attended Calvary, two of which were there since the age of four. I grew up going through the public school system where I experienced many disappointments. It seemed as if there was always a new program tried on me as a student, which only caused confusion. The thing I like about CCS is that they remain consistent in what they teach, which is very effective. All three of my children excelled at Calvary and received a solid foundation in all subject areas. Also, as a former public school student, I was taught evolution and never really knew much about creationism until I got saved.
I love the fact that CCS teaches the difference between evolution and creation and helps the students understand why they believe what they do. My children became knowledgeable of the truths of the Bible from their Bible classes and chapels at CCS. I never had to worry or wonder about what my children were being taught at school. The school helped us to teach our children how to live for God for which we are very thankful. We really appreciate the ministry of CCS through our church.
Kelly S. Josey (Mother of 8th & 9th grade students):
This was the first year for our family to return to conventional school after several years of home schooling, and it has been a tremendous blessing. Many times we’ve heard the phrase “Little is much when God is in it.” This is the first thought that comes to mind when describing Calvary Christian School. Though it may not be a large school, it is clearly evident God is working in each individual through both the teachers and other students.
Never before, in all of my years in school, have I seen teachers willing to spend their own time to do what it takes to help a student succeed academically and spiritually. I can clearly see this in all the classes. As the seniors of this school graduate this year, (which seem to be exceptional students!) it is obvious that this school has prepared them to be the best they can for Christ, and has helped develop the God given talents that He has given us all to Serve Him!
Angie McKinney (Mother of a K/4 student):
What a joy it is to send our child to CCS. We are amazed at how much she is learning. She comes home and teaches us new songs and poems and “reads” to her little brother. She has a good attitude every day when I pick her up at noon. The only problem is that she has asked why she can’t stay all day with everybody else. (To think that I was concerned that she would be sad without me!)It is such a blessing to have teachers and assistants who are concerned for the children (in all areas) and who reinforce the Bible principals that we try to teach at home. You don’t have to worry about what they are telling your children or teaching them. They are praying with them and teaching them God’s Word! Sarah’s class is so amazing! Besides the fact that they are having fun and learning so much (you wouldn’t believe it), they are actually ministering to others for the Lord. There are many great field trips, but the best was the one to the nursing home to do a Christmas program for the residents. The children were able to sing for the grandmas and grandpas. Even at four and five years old they were learning to serve the Lord. Mrs. Comstock says “you’re never to young to serve the Lord, even K4 can do it.” She is right! What a challenge.
Gale Richardson (Mother of a 6th grade student):
CCS has been a part of our lives for many years. We have two daughters that graduated from CCS and one son still attending CCS. We’ve seen lots of improvements here at CCS academically and spiritually. I really believe God sent Mr. and Mrs. Main to CCS, and their hearts are in doing their best for the Lord and the school. I appreciate all the hard work Mr. Main does. He is the most organized person; he usually has most of your questions answered in the Tuesday folder before I have to ask. I appreciate the teachers also. They could make a lot more money than they do here, but they wouldn’t be here if they weren’t doing it for the Lord and our children.
Also, I can never leave out our Pastor. He had a vision for this school years ago. I remember in the meeting he had with our church he said, “This is not something we will just start and quit.” I’m thankful for our Pastor’s dedication and diligence in our school ministry. If you are wavering about sending your kids back next year, remember things in this world are temporary, but our children’s souls are forever. They will be our future leaders.
Gina Whitaker (Mother of 1st & 5th grade students) In January 2004 we enrolled our son at CCS in the middle of his 2nd grade year. It was a big transition for us since he had been home schooled since K-5. Mrs. Foote was absolutely an answer to prayer. She was so sensitive and kind. She made sure he was adjusting well and took time out of her own schedule to spend one-on-one time with him. Each year the teachers have been just as special. Mrs. Reeves (3rd grade) was so kind and concerned about each of her students.
I believe she not only cares about how they are progressing academically, but she also cares about their spiritual walk with the Lord. Our son comes home daily telling us different things that Mrs. Reeves told them about the Lord. He wouldn’t be coming home with that information from a public school, would he? Our daughter started in K-4 and wow, what a start! Thanks bunches to Mrs. Comstock and Mrs. Shaw (and all the others) for hanging in there. It was very emotional, but thanks to the love and prayers we made it through. K-4 was wonderful! I cannot believe that my four year old learned to read! I know this is lengthy but I love CCS. I appreciate all the leaders and especially Mr. Main. I think you guide the school with a firm, yet loving Christian hand. I went to Christian schools all through school and I can honestly say there is not even one out there that can compete with CCS on any level. Thanks for providing this opportunity for my children so they can get the best possible start in life.
Wendy Wood (Mother of a K/4 and 2nd grade students):
I am constantly amazed by how the Lord works through our school to minister to the children. The teachers are wonderful examples of grace and love, and have been a great source of encouragement for us during the short time our child has been attending. It truly makes a difference when you know that the people who are dealing with your child on a daily basis aren’t “just” teachers, but sisters and brothers in Christ. We have not for one second doubted God’s will for our child to attend CCS, and we will sacrifice whatever is needed for him to continue to attend. It is worth it to us. Had it not been for the strong, Godly influence CCS has had on our child, he may not have accepted Christ as his Savior two weeks ago. For that, I thank God for the ministry of our school!
Tiffany Lambert (Graduate):
CCS is great because of the Christian environment and the high academic standards. I’ve attended the public schools and the difference is amazing. The teachers are kind and always willing to help with individual needs when requested. No one gets left behind. I love the weekly chapels. We are challenged with 2 messages a week from a variety of good preachers. Our teachers and principal are always there for us if we need to talk and are always willing to pray for situations that come up. Many students (including myself) have surrendered to the Lord during school chapels.
Amber Lineberry (Graduate):
During school revival in my junior year I surrendered to do whatever and go wherever God wills for my life. I don't know of any other school that is more Christ-centered than CCS. The teachers really care about students, and always try to help the ones who struggle. They make themselves available for questions about class work, and about life. I will never forget one of my teachers coming to the funeral home when my grandmother died. I will always be thankful for the Godly influence of my teachers at CCS.
Andrea Thacker (Graduate):
I learned a lot more in Calvary than I did in public schools because the classes are smaller and students get more help from the teachers. We had Bible class 4 days a week and preaching chapels twice, so we really learned a lot from the Bible along with the regular academic classes. Students and teachers are friendly and make everyone feel welcome, and the whole atmosphere at Calvary encourages students to be Godly. Anyone seeking a good Christian school for their children should consider Calvary!
