Music Ahoy, Mates! Come join the fun each week in 1st-2nd grade Patch the Pirate Club music class. With “Captain Foote” leading the way (Mrs. Monica Foote), Patch students learn songs, memorize scripture, hear stories, play games, color, and perform short skits for elementary chapel once a month. Our students enjoy this fun-filled music time from August to May. Third grade students meet with Mrs. Cox each week for recorder (flutophone) instruction. This is a valuable time for students to learn beginning music theory and have opportunity to play an inexpensive instrument in a group setting. Out of these classes a recorder band, ensemble, and Interested fourth 4th – 6th grade students meet twice each week for Band instruction, and all 4th-6th grade students receive vocal instruction in elementary choir. Private piano lessons through the school are also available for students beginning in 2nd grade. In January we begin preparing for NC Fine Arts Competition that will take place during April. CCS students participate in vocal and instrumental solos, small vocal groups, large vocal ensembles, and choir. Every year our students do very well in this competition. Much research has shown that students who participate in music achieve at a higher academic level than those who don’t. We are pleased with the growing number of children that participate in the various music programs of the school. |
