High School Drama

Alternating with the our Elementary American Heritage Program, every other year our 7-12th grade students present to a packed auditorium one of the finest Christian high school dramas within driving distance of King. Mrs. Marilyn Comstock (CCS fine arts director) always finds a remarkable Christian drama with a pointed Gospel message for our students to perform each year. And with the dramatic and choral expertise of Luke Benton (CCS choir director), Calvary dramas are second to none. Everyone within driving distance of King is invited to join us for a thoroughly enjoyable and spiritually challenging evening of fine arts performance by the students of Calvary Christian School in King. (Check calendar of events for dates.)

2006/07 – A Higher Court

“A Higher Court” was presented by the high school Drama Club of Calvary Christian School on October 6th at 7:00 pm in the Calvary Baptist Church auditorium on Main Street in King. This very dramatic story was about a school family being sued by another family simply because their elementary age son witnessed for his Lord to a girl on the school bus. Although this particular drama was fiction, as the story unfolds, real cases of families being sued today for the very same thing, in America, were cited. Our desire and prayer was that this drama would make a difference in the lives of all who attended, and potentially even in our community, state, and country. It has been well said that when good people do nothing bad people, with the wrong agenda, will be in control. The audience was challenged as Christians and Americans to wake up, open their eyes, and see where we are today spiritually and to realize that one day we will all stand before a Higher Court where God’s truth will prevail.

2008/09 – The Inner Fire

On November 15th, 2008, the CCS HS Drama Club and student body presented “The Inner Fire” to a packed house. “The Inner Fire” is a heart-wrenching drama depicting the life of William Carey, now known as the father of Modern Missions. William Carey’s testimony “expect great things from God, attempt great things for God” touched the hearts of the performing students as well as the audience. The drama enacted many hardships that Carey faced as he labored to bring the Gospel to the lost souls of India. Through unimaginable difficulty the Lord met every need for Carey. He did not quit when three of his children died on the mission field. He continued his work for years even while caring for his wife after her mind snapped. And a tragic fire that destroyed 10 of his translations and other writings, representing many years of work, drove him all the more to give God glory in everything.

William Carey considered himself to be only a “plodder” of mediocre ability. Yet this plodder for the Lord, “plodding” for 40 years, translated the Bible into 4 major languages and 36 other Asiatic languages, started a Bible college, established 26 churches, and founded 19 missions and 126 schools. William Carey learned that even a mediocre plodder of little talent can be used mightily by the Lord if he will “expect great things from God, and attempt great things for God.”

“The Inner Fire” was performed this year on the Saturday night before the last day of the annual Calvary Baptist Church missions conference. Our own performing students, plus visiting missionaries and others in the audience, were moved with the challenge to serve the Lord without reservation. The powerful testimony of this one man’s wholehearted dedication to Christ was life changing. As our high school students immersed themselves in William Carey’s life story, their own lives were impacted for His glory. And many of our visiting missionaries said they will never forget what they witnessed that night. Their hearts were challenged afresh for the work of missions that God is even now preparing them for. To God be the glory!
