Homecoming At CCS we endeavor to operate the school in such a way that “in all things he (Christ) might have the preeminence.” (Col. 1:18) Homecoming at Calvary is no exception. Each year 12 students are selected for the “Homecoming Court” by their peers, to represent the junior and senior high divisions of the school. From these 12, one boy and one girl will be honored as the Timotheans for that year. No student on the court is chosen for popularity, looks, or any other criteria commonly associated with Homecoming “king” & “queen”. Instead, their peers choose them because, in their opinion, they have the best Christian testimony in their division of the high school. All 7th-12th grade students are carefully taught the meaning of 1 Timothy 4:12, in which the apostle Paul told young Timothy, ‘Let no man despise thy youth. But be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.’ Before completing the ballot from which the 12 are chosen, the students are taught (or re-taught) the truths of this passage of Scripture. “In word” refers to how we talk and what we talk about. “Conversation” is an old fashioned word that refers to our lifestyle. The word “charity” speaks of love & kindness toward one another. “In spirit” includes being spiritually minded. “In faith” includes being faithful as well as true to the faith. “Purity” includes both actions and speech. Students are then asked to nominate three boys and three girls in 7th – 9th and the same in 10th – 12th grades to represent their high school division. These must be students who they believe to portray the best examples of a Christian believer. This is never an easy assignment, because so many CCS students have good testimonies for the Lord. When the 12 members of the court have been identified, the students must decide again. Which one boy and one girl from the court have portrayed the most consistent example of 1 Timothy 4:12
