CCS Diploma Requirements Overview The path to a high school diploma at CCS is not a one-size-fits-all path. Four courses of study are available leading to either a General Diploma, an NC College Prep Diploma, an NC College Prep Diploma with Honors, or an Occupational Diploma. The course and credit requirements for each are detailed below:
Regarding the CCS General Diploma Track: This is the same fine diploma track that has been offered at Calvary for many years. Students graduating with good grades from this program have typically been well prepared for success in college, whether Christian or secular.
Regarding the NC College Prep Diploma Track: Our strong recommendation for all CCS graduates is that they continue their education in Christian colleges. However, for those who wish to enter one of the UNC System schools, Calvary Christian School provides a NC College Prep Diploma Track that satisfies UNC entrance requirements. (…Or who wish to enter a Christian college in a career field requiring an advanced math foundation)
Regarding the Occupational Diploma Track: With approval from both parents and school administration, this track of study enables students with certain disabilities to earn a high school diploma that parallels state requirements for a NC occupational high school diploma. The transcript will be marked “Occupational” for a student successfully completing this course of study (also marked on the back of the diploma). Course requirements for occupational track students may be modified at each grade level to meet each student’s needs. The grading scale is based on ten points for each letter grade in occupational classes, with a passing grade of 60 (not 70). A student pursuing an Occupational Diploma will be expected to take advantage of extra help (help classes, etc.) as available so he or she can achieve the highest degree of success possible for them. The Passport Learning program is recommended to improve reading skills, may be taken in place of one semester of Language Arts, and will receive credit toward satisfying Language Arts requirements. Some Christian colleges may accept a student with an Occupational Diploma. However, it should be understood that requirements for this course of study have been prescribed for students who cannot successfully do the work required for the general diploma. For this reason the occupational track is not designed to, and will not, provide the high degree of academic preparation generally needed for success at the more difficult college level. * 1) Occupational prep credits can be satisfied through correspondence with the American School. (Girls: Child Care, Clothing, Food Study, or Home Planning & Decorating. Boys: Basic Drafting, Home Repairs, Fundamentals of Electricity, or Carpentry) Occupational prep credits can also be satisfied through 90 hours of ministry-related training (nursery, Sunday school, youth assistant, coaches assistant, usher, visitation, etc.) + 60 paid hours working with a local skilled worker (carpentry, carpet laying, general maintenance, etc.) or in a local business (day care, flower shop, etc.).
