HISTORY

Under the leadership of Dr. Roger Baker, Calvary Christian School of King was founded in 1982 as a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church. For many years CCS has ministered to the educational needs of Christian families, and has maintained a high standard of quality Christian education. The Lord has graciously provided solid growth in facilities, staff and enrollment. Calvary Christian School is known throughout the community as an excellent school, and is currently the largest Christian school of its kind in Stokes County.

FACULTY

Teachers at Calvary are well qualified spiritually and professionally. Each has been carefully selected on the basis of their Christian testimony, educational preparation, and teaching experience. Our teachers are caring and compassionate, striving daily to give the students a thorough education while making a difference in their lives for the Lord.

CURRICULUM

We choose the best curriculum available to provide a well-balanced Christ-centered program of instruction. We use the A-Beka Book and Bob Jones University Press textbooks in most classes, plus Saxon math from 2nd-12 grades. Instruction is also offered in Spanish (7th-10th grades), speech, band, drama, physical education, sports, computer applications, and remedial areas.

DIPLOMA OPTIONS

The path to a high school diploma at CCS is not a one-size-fits-all path. Three courses of study are available leading to a General Diploma, a NC College Prep Diploma, or an Occupational Diploma. See CCS Diploma Track Overview for course and credit requirements.

ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT and/or REMEDIATION

During school and summer months several programs are available to help both students who struggle and those who excel to make important advances to the next level of achievement. For more information, see The Academy of Reading, The Academy of Math, and Academic Enrichment Opportunities.

ADMISSIONS POLICY

To enroll in K/4 or K/5 a child must be four or five by October 16th of that school year. All incoming parents and students are interviewed. A recent report card and achievement test results should be brought to the interview. Students are accepted on the basis of the interview, testing, recent school grades, discipline records, and space available.

Because of the spiritual goals of our school, students in grades 7-12 and at least one parent must be faithfully (weekly) attending a church that is in agreement with the Calvary Baptist Church Statement of Faith. At least one parent of 7th – 12th grade students must be a born again Christian and give a clear testimony of that during the interview. A Pastor’s Reference Form must be completed each year by the pastor of each 7th–12th grade student, and is an additional factor determining acceptance.

A statement of cooperation is signed by all elementary and high school parents and also by 7th–12th grade students to pledge support for the school’s programs and goals.

TRANSPORTATION

The school does not provide transportation but will assist when possible in the formation of car pools.

DRESS REQUIREMENTS

CCS does not implement uniforms, but does adhere to specified dress standards as detailed in the Parent-Student Handbook.

ATHLETICS

Calvary Christian School competes in interscholastic sports with other schools in the Carolina Christian Conference and also with schools outside the conference. Our 7-12th grade boys compete in JV and varsity soccer and basketball and varsity baseball. (see High School Sports) The girls compete in volleyball and JV and varsity basketball. Exciting JV and varsity cheerleading programs are also available, with 1st-2nd and 3rd-6th grade girls’ pep squads as well. (see Elementary Sports) Our emphasis throughout the CCS athletic program is always on Christian character and sportsmanship, even above winning.

BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE

Early arrival and late stay programs are available for those parents who find it necessary to bring their children before school begins or leave them after regular school hours. The charges for this service are detailed on the Tuition and Fees page.

ASSOCIATIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

Calvary Christian School is a member of the North Carolina Christian School Association and the American Association of Christian Schools. These organizations are dedicated to the development of quality Christian education, academic excellence, and the protection of Christian liberties at the state and national levels of government. It is through these associations that we promote teacher development and remain abreast of current methods and materials. Our students also benefit by enhanced and varied opportunities to compete and cooperate with students from other Christian schools across the state and country.

NON-DISCRIMINATORY ENROLLMENT POLICY

Calvary Christian School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, athletics, or other school-administered programs.
