3 year old preschool through 5 year old kindergarten at Calvary are designed to prepare students academically, socially, physically, and spiritually for 1st grade and the grades beyond. As is every grade, the spirit is sweet in 1st – 6th grades at CCS, academics are excellent, the environment is safe, the teachers are loving, students learn and have fun, and the Lord is honored! Particulars 1. Preschool (PS3) is offered on a full time (M-F 6:00 am-6:00 pm) or part time (M,T or Th,F 6:00 am – 6:00 pm) basis. K/4 and K/5 are M-F programs offered on a half-day (8:00-12:00) or full day (8:00 – 3;00) basis. K/4 & K/5 before and after school care is available from 6:00-8:00 am and 3:00-6:00 pm.
3. CCS PS3’s-K/5’s learn to count by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s and to recognize and write numbers to 100. CCS kindergarten students also learn simple addition & subtraction, counting & using money, telling time, shapes, sizes, wholes, and halves. 4. CCS PS3’s-K/5’s learn to write in cursive. Instead of teaching children to write using manuscript formation for four years and then switching them to cursive in third grade, we teach children to write using cursive formation from the very beginning, in kindergarten. 5. CCS PS3’s-K/5’s learn to recognize capital and small letters of the alphabet with their phonetic sounds, to combine consonants and vowels to form “blends”, and to combine blends and consonants to form words. Much drilling and practice is provided to develop the degree of instant recognition and mastery needed for reading proficiency. 6. Reading skills advance until students can read full sentences and stories. Spring achievement tests show many K5 students to be reading on a second grade level. 7. Students develop music appreciation, learn many choruses and songs and perform in full fine arts productions. 8. Students develop artistic skills through coloring, painting, cutting, pasting, etc. 9. Students learn the pledges to the American Flag, Christian Flag, and the Bible, and study Community helpers, American History and children of the world. 10. Students learn fascinating things in science about plants, animals, weather, etc. K/4 performs several little programs throughout the year that of course parents are invited to attend, including “K/4 Olympics”, “K/4 Circus”, and Thanksgiving and Christmas programs.K/5 students culminate their kindergarten experience with a full graduation exercise complete with all the traditional elements of graduation (caps & gowns, the march, diploma presentation, etc.). Leading up to the graduation march, the K/5 students perform a full fine arts program that many guests have reported to be second to none and very impressive!
